William Dee “W.D.” Doster, 87, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at his home in Amory. The only son of William Orville and Vivian Lucille Howell Doster, he was born on February 29, 1932 in Monroe County. A graduate of Hatley High School, he also graduated from Mississippi State University and he married the former Mary Joyce West on December 24, 1950 and together, they built a home and raised their family. In 1952, W.D. was drafted into the U.S Army and served during the Korean Conflict in Alaska as a radar operator. Prior to his retirement, he worked for many years at True Temper Sports in Amory and later he and Joyce enjoyed traveling, sightseeing, their family, and home while he watched and fed the deer from his back yard. W.D. was a long-time faithful member of the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in Hatley and he could be found during every meeting with a pocketful of mints in every suit. W.D. will be most remembered as a kind, gentle man and a joy and pleasure to be around.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Elder Tim Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in the Hatley Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 69 years, Joyce Doster; one son, Mike Doster (Darlene) of Smithville; one daughter, Brenda Pennington of Amory; two grandchildren, Cole Doster and Sharlee Pennington; great grandchildren, Ayden and Alice Drummond and Nick and Raven Doster; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Hayden Minich, Tommy Minich, Van Rogers, Talmadge Pennington, Mike Riley, Shelby Carter, and Mike Baughman.
Visitation will begin at 12 noon on Thursday and will continue until 1:45 p.m.
