William Thaniel “Sarge” Sargent, 83, passed away on Sunday July 7, 2019 at his home. Sarge was born on April 29, 1936 in Shannon, Mississippi to Archie and Inez Hester Sargent. He was married to Barbara Rea on August 24, 1957 and early on, he was a heavy equipment operator for TVA and a construction manager for oil rig sites. He retired from Monroe County as Road Manager. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to deer hunt and run dogs, and he was a member of the Nettleton Hunting and Fishing Club for over 40 years. He had a special love for horses and buggies and he was a master gardener who could grow peas to supply the whole community. He liked riding his tractor, watching the Atlanta Braves play, but most of all; his best time was spent with his children and grandchildren. Totally devoted to the Lord, he was a member of the Cason Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Sarge was a simple man who would rather have a hot buttered biscuit rather than a rib eye steak any day.
