William Roy Frederick, 78, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024 at his home in Hatley. A native of Vernon, AL, he was born on December 9, 1945 to A.C. and Jettie Myers Frederick. He married the former Mary Ruth Best on December 22, 1968 and prior to his retirement, he was employed with FFM in Amory. He was a man who could fix anything; and in his early years, he was one of the many who worked on the largest domestic earth moving project in history, the Tenn-Tom Waterway and worked on the canal section from Aberdeen Lock and Dam to Bay Springs Lock and Dam. In addition, he had been employed by the Town of Hatley Water Dept. William honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1969. He sailed on the U.S.S. Oklahoma City during the Vietnam campaign receiving the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. A member of the Hatley Volunteer Fire Department, he sought to serve his community any way he could. He was a born-again Christian, a great student of the Bible, and a man full of integrity always seeking that which is right. His hobbies included gardening, oil paintings of nature and landscapes, but above all, he enjoyed being with his family especially his grandchildren, which were his pride and joy.
