William Hermon Gregory, 86, passed away from this life on Monday, February 26, 2024 at his home. He was born on September 17, 1937 in Pontotoc County to Hermon and Rubie Culpepper Gregory. A graduate of Smithville High School, he worked for Pullman Couch as a supervisor and retired as a supervisor at True Temper Sports in Amory. He married the former Virginia Tubb on February 7, 1960. W.H. was also an old-time farmer who enjoyed gardening and plowing with horses and mules. He loved hooking his horses up to the wagon and going for a ride. He was a cattleman and liked nothing better than to cut and bail hay or just be out on the tractor. He was a faithful member of Smithville Baptist Church where he was an inactive deacon and for many years, he was a Sunday School teacher and had been the music director in the past. His contagious smile and pleasant demeanor will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Smithville Baptist Church with Bro. Drew Gardner officiating. Mr. Luke Harris will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Durrett Cemetery.
In addition to his wife of 64 years Virginia Gregory, he is survived by three sons, Arnold Gregory (Meg) of Sturgis, Paul Gregory (Becky) of Amory, and Norman Gregory (Jennifer) of Smithville; his grandchildren, Emjaii Ruth (Xavier), Rachel Sargent (Brandon), Austin Gregory (Caitie), Jessica Johnson (Dave), Amanda Sloan (Lane), Will Gregory (Ashley), Evan Gregory (Ruthann), Emily Awtrey (J.J.), Elijah Gregory, and Aleena Gregory; great grandchildren, Kindel Gregory, Maisie Awtrey, Sydney, Briley, and Whaley Sargent, Hunter Johnson, Kylei and Colton Gregory, Adam and Caylie Harmon, Aiden and Everett Gregory, and Addi Ruth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Jo Ann Lansing.
Pallbearers will be Luke Harris, Barry Williams, John Snow, John Swartzendruber, Rollin Turnage, and Cecil Harris.
Visitation will be on Saturday from noon until the service hour.
Memorials may be made to the Durrett Cemetery c/o Quincy Properties, LLC.
