Amory—Verna Mae Ruth Parish Carroll, 81, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Oak Tree Plantation. Born on November 4, 1937, she was a daughter to Elisha Beverly and Rose Ella Stanford Parish. A life-long resident of Monroe County, she grew up in Bigbee, attended Bigbee School and later Amory High School. On July 3, 1954, she married Billy Carroll and in the 1960’s she and Billy started their first gravel and continued until retirement, keeping the books. Proud of her heritage and her roots, she was actively involved and at one time, she held the position of Regional Regent in the Daughters of American Revolution. She had a passion for genealogy and history, extensively studying, as she contributed and helped to bring to fruition to the Monroe County History Book. Extremely faithful and devoted to God, she served as church pianist for many years, and she was charter member of Providence Baptist Church and House of Prayer Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Carroll will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home with Bro. James Gillentine and Bro. Ray Carroll officiating. Burial will follow in the Amory Historical Cemetery.
Survivors include 3 sons, Garry Carroll (Karen) of Amory, Roger Carroll of Saltillo, and Mike Carroll (Pepper) of Amory; one daughter, Cindy Carroll Loden (Mike) of Bigbee; 10 grandchildren, Robin Joyner (Torrey), Nicole Fooshee (David), Jeremy Carroll (Whitney), Michael Loden (Heather), Hope Carroll, Jennifer Smithey, Paige Pace (Wade), David Carroll (Layne), Drake Carroll (Brandy), and Simon Carroll; 6 great grandchildren, Abby, Luke, and Bo Loden, Jayden Fooshee, Brandy Smithey, and Ella Shea Carroll; sisters-in-law, Kathy Smith and Judy Parish; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Michael Loden, Jeremy Carroll, David Carroll, Drake Carroll, Luke Loden, Jayden Fooshee, Clint Parish, and Torrey Joyner.
Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. on Saturday evening at the funeral home.
