Tommy Cecil Sargent, 76, died on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at his home in the Bigbee Community. Born April 20, 1940 in Monroe County he was a son to Abe Rubel and Edith Nash Sargent. Attending Bigbee School he later married Nell Bennett in 1960. Prior to his retirement, he worked for Local #150 in Joliet, Ill. as a heavy equipment operator. A devoted family man, he cherished the time he spent with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was a member of the Bethel Apostolic Church and he enjoyed playing pool, mechanic work, and fishing.
Funeral service for Mr. Sargent will be at 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the Bethel Apostolic Church in Amory with Bro. Coy Hill and Bro. Larry Sims officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Chapel Cemetery. Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Nell Sargent of Amory; one son, Jason Sargent (Koury) of Farmer City, IL; one daughter, Lisa Hill (David) of Amory; one brother, Henry “Buford” Sargent of Wren; two sisters, Ruth Basham of Hamilton and Barbara Jean Mitchell (Donald) of Becker; 9 grandchildren, Amber Cherry, David Ethan Hill (Amanda), Layla Sargent, Abram Sargent, Jacy Dean, Saia Dean, Meadow Sargent, Justin Dillard, Madalyn Pearson, and Chris Hand (Jennie); 5 great grandchildren, Hanna Cherry, Gabby Cherry, Micah Cherry, Shawn Renfro, and Kayden Hill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter, Serra Beth Pearson.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church.
