Shirley Mae Hill Steinke, 87, passed away at her home on Friday, April 11, 2025. She was born in Pontotoc County to the late Robert and Bertha Hill. Shirley grew up in Pontotoc County and later moved with her family to Midland, Texas. While in Texas, Shirley married Ervin Carl Steinke and they were married 60 years before his death in 2011. She and Ervin would eventually settle on Phillips School House Road in Amory and raise their four daughters and 3 sons. Shirley worked in the factory for 13 years before joining the family business of brick masons. Shirley labored for over 38 years in the business, working for her brother, Eugene Hill and many years with her son, Kenneth Steinke and lastly her grandson Robert Steinke. She was a firm believer that you ought to do a hard days work. Her work ethic was unmatched and she taught her children and grandchildren the value and reward of a days work for fair wages. Never showing weakness and staying strong throughout all of life's circumstances, Shirley remained strong and determined right up to death. She enjoyed working in her yard, tending to her cows, feeding her shop cats and watching her westerns. Shirley had many dogs throughout her life that she loved, especially her dog Sally. She was a member of Splinter Back Baptist Church and attended Wildwood Chapel Baptist Church with her entire family for many years. While we passing leaves a void in the lives of everyone who knew Shirley, we rejoice in know that she has now entered the haven of rest for her soul. Her legacy will continue to live for generations of the Steinke family to come.
