Sally M. Staten Pate, 92, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Dugan Memorial Home in West Point. She was born on July 19, 1930, in the Egypt Community to Samuel Dilworth and Myrtle Lawson Staten. She graduated school in Egypt, and she married John Thomas Newman in 1948 who later died in 1981. She married David Pate who also preceded her in death. Sally was a devoted homemaker who, in addition, worked for the Bryan Public Library for many years. As an advocate for reading, she also drove the library’s book mobile and she was a member of the Lawson Chapel Church of Christ. She was an exceptional cook and she loved to work the garden. Her hobbies included reading, traveling, and playing Rook.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home with her son-in-law, Sam Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in the McCondy Cemetery.
She is survived by her son, Sam Newman (Valda) of Bloomington, IN; two daughters, Becky Carpenter (Sam) of Smithville and Roxanne McTaggart (Donald) of West Point; her stepdaughter, Gale Pollard of West Point; one sister, Mary Eva Crosswhite of Tupelo; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, John Thomas Newman, and David Pate; one son, Johnny Newman; her son-in-law, Les Pollard; and several brothers.
Pallbearers will be Benjamin McTaggart, Randall Hester, Jordan Summerford, Joshua Newman, Brock Newman, Daniel Cook, and Brandon Cook.
Visitation will be from noon until service time at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the McCondy Cemetery or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
