Ruby Jean Camp Gray, 91, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Ruby was born on December 18, 1931 in Smithville to Dock and Dessie Pickle Camp. She attended Monroe County Schools which included Trace Road and Becker Schools. Ruby married Billie Gray on January 12, 1949 and she was a member of Bigbee Baptist Church and often attended East Amory Baptist Church with her son, Roger and Meadowood Baptist Church with her grandchildren. A member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, she served as Worthy Matron in Amory and Aberdeen and also, she was Grand Representative of the Province of Saskatchewan, Canada in Mississippi. Wholly devoted to her family, she was proud of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, and took exceptional pride in raising her granddaughter, Bridget. She often traveled with her husband to several cities while he was on the railroad which she thoroughly enjoyed. In her younger years, she was active in the Shriners and Masons. Although she was homemaker first and foremost, she did public work for over 30 years employed by Wilson Mfg., later Monroe Trousers where she opened backs and black flies. Ruby was a wonderful cook and was known for many special dishes. She remembered holidays, birthdays and loved having her family around. She was always giving and had a heart to take care of others.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home with Bro. Lloyd Sweatt, Bro. Roger Akers, Bro. Chuck Moffett, Bro. Mike Todd, and Bro. Justin Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in the Gray’s Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Roger Gray, Amory, two daughters, Brenda Randolph, Nettleton and Billie Jean Gray, Amory; her sister, Ludeen Gray, Amory; granddaughter raised as her own, Bridget Sanders (Justin); grandchildren, Chris Gray (Ashley), Joey Randolph (Amber), Jimmy Lee Randolph (Tami), Justin Randolph (Anna), Cory Gray (Victoria), Tammie Sullivan (Dale), and Greg Randolph (Kim); great grandchildren, Andrew Randolph (Cristy), Abigail McDuffie (Nicholas), Karli Gray, Chas Sanders, Lucas Randolph, Welles Gray, Rafe Gray, Hannah Wright (Chase), Zachary Randolph, Kamryn Randolph (Allie), and Hali Ray (Levi); a special cousin, Eunice Pearce; and special friend, James A. “Killer” Capps.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Billie Gray; one son, Randall Gray; grandson, Randy Gray; her sisters, Minnie Mae Adams, Lonie Bell Howard, Ila Puckett, Earline Summers, Opal Camp, and Ruth Camp; her brothers, Roy Lee Camp, James Camp, Trannie Camp, Donnie “DC” Camp, Hobert Camp, and Thomas Camp; daughter-in-law, Susan Gray; and son-in-law, Jimmy Randolph.
Pallbearers will be Justin Randolph, Greg Randolph, Jimmy Lee Randolph, Joey Randolph, Chris Gray, Cory Gray, Justin Sanders, Chas Sanders, Nicholas McDuffie, Andrew Randolph, and Lucas Randolph. Honorary pallbearers will be Timmy Camp, Jimmy Gray, Ronnie Gray, Ricky Camp, Bobby Camp, and Keith Gray.
Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Bigbee Baptist Church Building Fund; the American Diabetes Association; or to the American Lung Association.
