Robert Hurston Nash, 71, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. Robert was born on April 15, 1947 in Monroe County to John Hurston and Mavis Pearl Roebuck Nash. He grew up in Hatley and lived on his home place all of his life and he attended Hatley School. At the age of 17, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and he served in Germany during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he attended Itawamba Junior College later teaching metal trades for many years; however, he was a man of many talents during his working career with his favorite being a logger and, he, having a nostalgic mind, logged with his favorite pair of mules, Billy and Molly. With his love for his animals, upon their death, Robert buried Billy and Molly on the home place. Most notable about Robert was his story telling. He could captivate an audience from the first word and never meeting a stranger, he had friends from Monroe County to Florida, California, and many other parts of the country. With his trademark overalls and long white beard, he had a laugh that was absolutely contagious as he was the life of the crowd. Robert was always found helping others so it was no surprise when all of his friends rallied to help him build his house after milling the lumber from a saw mill built by his own hands. He was married to Sara Hester on June 2, 2000 and a member of the New Hope Church of Christ. As his health declined, he fought hard the last few years through tremendous adversity, but having a deep faith, his personality never changed.
