Retha Hunt

Retha Mae Hunt, 78, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.  She was born on May 22, 1945 in Lee County to Calvin and Pearlie Sullivan Kennedy.  A lifelong resident of Monroe County, she worked may years for Red Kap before her retirement and afterward she sat with the elderly.  She loved reading and gardening and could grow anything but most of all, she loved spending time with her family.  She was a member of the Independent Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Nettleton.  

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Larry Monaghan officiating.  Burial will follow in the Coontail Cemetery.  

She is survived by one son, Mark Hunt (Melissa) of Shannon; 4 daughters, Jan Pierce (Robert) of Wren, Kathy Zappa (Jess) of Amory, Suzy Baugh (Saverino) of Amory, and Carol Seger (Ronald) of Wren; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.  

She was preceded in death by her parent’s, the father of her children, Carroll Hunt; her second husband, Prentiss Nelson; 2 sisters; and 10 brothers.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Ross, Erick Sandlin, Jacob Zappa, Joshua Zappa, James Michael Baugh, and Jonathan Seger.

Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
