James Edward “Pete” Elrod, 81, passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at his home. Pete was born in Halltown, AL to James Dossie “Hank” and Addie Mae Dees Elrod. He married the former Wanda Pierce and for many years he labored as a farmer, and he also worked for Keeton Sawmill, Sunshine Homes, and Sunshine Mills. Pete gave his heart to God and from then on, attending church Oak Grove Church of God was a must for him, and he could never get enough of his gospel music. He gardened to provide for his family to whom he was completely devoted, taking care of his girls and his beautiful wife of almost 62 years. He raised hogs, begals, and cut firewood.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at Oak Grove Church of God with Micah Jackson and Dustin Walters officiating. Steven Turbyfill will reflect memories. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home of Amory has been entrusted with the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Sue Pierce Elrod; daughters, Regina Carol Hamm (Chuck), Tammy Lynn Franks (Keith), Brenda Jean “BJ” Walters (Mike), and Linda Nicole Ray; sisters, Barbara Sue Scott, Betty Jo Bullock, and Bonnie Lou Garrison; grandchildren, Sabrina Carol Humphries (Jeremy), Angelina Dawn Garner (Rusty), Steven James Turbyfill (Samantha), Addie Sunseria Mauldin, Charles Wesley Mauldin, Williams Dossie “Hank” Ray, Harlee Alexia Brewer, Dustin Walters (Lacey), Matthew Walters, Allen Walters, and Brandon Franks (Samantha), great grandchildren Gaberila Garner, Trey Garner, and Austin Humphries (Jodi); and great-great grandchildren, Ellie Humphries, Cori Humphries, and Collins Humphries; and a great host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Waymond and Willie Elrod; sisters, Bobbie Rogers, Ruth McGough, and Baby Elrod.
Pallbearers will be Steven Turbyfill, Wesley Mauldin, Brandon Franks, Hank Ray, Paul Garrison, and Donnie Garrison.
Visitation will be on Saturday evening from 5 until 9 at the church.
