Monda Sizemore

June 6, 1948 — February 16, 2025

Amory

Monda Elaine Vaughan Sizemore, 76, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was born in Hatley on June 6, 1948 to the late Aaron and Lucy Kate Hill Vaughan. Monda was a graduate of Hatley High School, where she was an all-star basketball player, often scoring 40 plus points per game.

Monda had a deep love and appreciation for her community and school which led her to attend Itawamba Junior College and Mississippi State University, earning a degree in education. She came right back to Hatley in the second semester of 1970 and began a 34 year career at Hatley School teaching in elementary, mostly of which was as a 4th grade teacher. Monda was proud of her career, proud of her school and proud of her students that she had the opportunity to teach. She was also an assistant coach to Harry Adair and helped to lead the Lady Tigers to several championships.

In 1971 Monda married Rick Sizemore and they made their home in Hatley. Monda and Rick were great supporters and fans of their daughters, Courtney and Brittany. From cheerleading to the softball field, or the classroom to their careers, she was always there cheering them on. Monda knew the importance of family and had a close bond with her sisters, Sundra and Pam. The 3 sisters, along with other family and friends, took many trips across the world, made many fond memories and always looked forward to the next trip together. Once the grandkids came along, Monda and Rick were invested in everything they did and always encouraged them to succeed. She was a faithful member of Hatley Missionary Baptist Church.

Monda is survived by her husband of 53 years, Rick Sizemore; daughters, Courtney Sizemore Adams (Evan), of Hatley and Brittany Sizemore Purnell (Marc), of Nesbit; sisters, Sundra King (George), of Hatley and Pam Adair (Phil), of Hatley; grandchildren, Bryson Walters, Charli Kate, Ty, and Owen Adams, Evie and Tucker Purnell; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents, Monda is preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Paul and Violet Sizemore and two nephews, Derek King and Michael Young.
