Mary Posey Perry

Mary Posey Perry, 80, passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at NMMC- Gilmore in Amory. She was born in Okolona on April 5, 1941 to the late James Wallace Posey and Ellen Spencer Posey. She grew up in the Shakerag Community of Chickasaw County and attended Egypt and Okolona School. Mary was an excellent cook and she worked many years at Spencers Restaurant in Mooreville. The mother of 10 children, she also devoted herself to her family. She loved nothing more than to fix a large meal and have her family around the dinner table. In her free time she enjoyed playing Bingo but nothing brought her more joy than being around her family.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard Perry, Dorsey; daughters, Rosemary Shelton (Kenny), Amory and Melinda Green (Keith), Okolona; sons, Michael Edington (Sonya), Smithville, Larry Edington (Cynthia), Okolona, Gary Edington (Barbara), Okolona, David Edington (Carol), Shannon, Gerald Edington (Christina), Okolona and William Howard Chastain, Jr., Okolona; 31 grandchildren and a host of great, great great, great great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by 2 daughters, Tina King and Cynthia Ann Chastain, grandsons, Robert Williams and Tony Alvarez; sisters, Verda Cain and Eva Earnest; brothers, Cecil, Robert and James Ray Posey.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, June 27 at Boones Chapel Methodist Church in Okolona with Bro. Harvey Coplin officiating. Burial will follow in the Boones Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Joe Edington, David Eugene Edington, Marcus Allen Edington, Robert Green, Corey Green, Brandon Green, Dakota Edington and Red Guthery. He grandsons will be honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be Saturday evening at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home from 5-8 PM. Mrs. Posey will lie in state at Boones Chapel Methodist Church on Sunday from 1 PM until the service hour at 3.
