Mary Gallop Herndon

Mary Green Gallop Herndon, 89, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Oak Tree Manor in Amory.  She was born January 27, 1934 in Wren to the late Walter Green Gallop and Bessie Bowen Gallop.  Mary grew up in Wren and was a graduate of Aberdeen High School, Class of 1952.  She also graduated from Vaughn's Beauty College and worked as a telephone switchboard operator.  She married Billy Herndon on July 23, 1955.  Mary spent most all of her married life as a homemaker.  She treasured her role as a wife, mother and grandmother.  Her dedication and love to her family was an important part of her life.  She loved to cook, especially Sunday afternoon meals, sew, paint, and shop.  She adored her grandchildren and loved spoiling them, especially when came to cooking.  She was a longtime, faithful member of First Christian Church in Aberdeen.

Mary is survived by her sons, Bill Herndon (Alissa) of Murfreesboro, TN and Phil Herndon (Roberta) of Amory; grandchildren, Ashley Gray (Chris), Zac Herndon (Sidney), Kyle Herndon, Cody Herndon (Chelsea) and Payton Herndon (Lane); great grandchildren, Addie Kate Herndon, Ryleigh Beth Herndon, Carter Herndon and Savannah Herndon; a host of nieces, nephews and church friends; special friend at Oak Tree Manor, Ann Price.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary is preceded in death by an infant brother; her sisters, Gladys Jackson, Louise Mooney and Jean Herndon.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, January 9, 2023 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Chuck Moffett officiating.  Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Zac Herndon, Kyle Herndon, Peyton Herndon, Cody Herndon, Rick Herndon and Chris Gray.

Visitation will be prior to the service on Tuesday from 11 AM until 12:45 PM.
