Mary Katherine Norris Ricks, 77, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at her home. She was born on June 29, 1941 in Lee County to William Edward and Bertha Louise Willis Norris. Mrs. Ricks was a graduate of Nettleton High School and she was married to Glenn Ricks on August 6, 1960. From the early age of 7, Mrs. Ricks was no stranger to work, whether it was in the cotton fields, cooking or babysitting. With a desire to help others, her home was often opened up to care for her extended family. In her early adult years, she worked for Longenecker and Kramco, before discovering her love for nursing when she was hired by Mr. Clay McClusky at Gilmore Memorial Hospital. She then began a life-long career. Graduating from LPN school at Itawamba Junior College, she worked for 7 years before she enrolled in RN school also at IJC. For 35 years Mrs. Ricks was devoted to Gilmore Hospital with over 20 years as a nursing supervisor until her sickness in 2006 and she prided herself with her nursing skills and with the ability to help others. Away from work, she enjoyed her time spent with her family and she especially enjoyed traveling, taking cruises to Alaska, going to Hawaii or to the Bahamas. She was a faithful member of Jones Chapel Baptist Church.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ricks will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Jones Chapel Baptist Church with Bro. Wesley Stephens and Bro. Bill Monoghan officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Chapel Cemetery. Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of the arrangements.
