Joseph Lee Cavender, 65, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2017 at his home in the Bethlehem Community. Born on June 16, 1952, he was a son to Clovis Lee and Velcie Marie Silas Cavendar and he attended Smithville Schools. He married Sandra Carter in 1971, and after working for Amory Garment Company for a short time, Mr. Cavender pursued a career in transportation. After attending truck driving school in Memphis, he was an over –the-road driver for over 30 years. Prior to his retirement, he was a security guard for Gilmore Memorial Hospital. An accomplished musician, he enjoyed playing his guitar and picking with his friends. He loved his dogs and enjoyed spending time with them. He enjoyed visiting with friends and especially with James Boren sitting and talking about the “good ole days.”
At his request, there will be no service. Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home of Amory is assisting the family.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Sandra Cavender of the Bethlehem Community; one son, Jerry Cavender (Dawn) of Amory; one daughter, Jennifer Cavender Boren (Anthony) of Fulton; 2 brothers, Alton Cavender (Connie) of Detroit, AL and Dewew Lee Cavender (Ruth) of Stockton, CA; one sister, Rita Lovelady (Danny) of Sulligent; 4 grandchildren, Vanessa Strode (Rico) of Fulton; Matthew Thompson of Fulton, Chelsea Trease (Carson) of Hamilton, MS; and Robbie Cavender of Amory; two great grandchildren, Sophia and Addison Trease; and special friend, Jody Taylor of Greenwood Springs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Cavender; and two sisters, Helen Foot and Madine Knight.
