Margaret Joan Lyle Hawkins, 89, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Born in Bigbee on May 24, 1935, in Amory she was a daughter to Gorman and Gladys Foust Lyle. Joan attended Amory schools and earned her LPN certification from Itawamba Junior College. She was the widow of Charles Hawkins whom she married in 1954. She spent a long career as an LPN at Gilmore Memorial Hospital where she cared for countless patients. She enjoyed reading and taking care of her dogs. Her family was her world, and she loved nothing more than to cook for them when she was able. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren are who she spoiled the most and she enjoyed listening to country music, especially George Strait. She was a member of Bigbee Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home with Bro. Rob Sargent officiating. Burial will follow in the Haughton Memorial Park.
Left behind to cherish her memory is her daughter, Rachel Knight (Lance), Fayette, AL; brother-in-law, Jimmy Hawkins; sister, Mary Nix (Wilbur), Amory; grandchildren, Heath Hawkins (Melissa), Eli Hawkins, Dianna Hawkins, Dillian Hawkins, Crystal Hawkins, and Casey Hawkins; great grandchildren, Stormie Prestridge (Andy), Emmie Elam (Wesley), Jolee Tubb, Kailie Taylor (Dakota), Tristan Hawkins (Mary Kathryn), Kain Bertinot (Tori), Summer Jernigan; great-great grandchildren, Paisley, Lucy, Brailen, Chadlee, Madilyn, Clay, and Laney; a host of nieces and nephews; special cousin, Doris.
She was preceded in death by her husband; 4 sons, Mike Hawkins, Jeff Hawkins, Ricky Hawkins, and Mickey Hawkins; grandson, Chad Hawkins; siblings, Jean Tartt, Marylee Kennedy, Punkie Lyle, Dickie Lyle, Billy Lyle, Pargie Lyle, Ham Lyle, Midget Lyle, and Mildred Lyle.
Pallbearers will be Kain Bertinot, Tristan Hawkins, Gary Bennett, Wesley Elam, Andy Prestridge, and Caleb Reeder. Honorary pallbearers will be Rex Presley, Terry Knight, Lee Knight, and James Estes.
Visitation will be from noon until the service hour on Monday at the funeral home.
