Jewel Graves, 90, died on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at her residence. Born February 22, 1926 in Monroe County, she was a daughter of Trannie and Lila Thornton Ausborn. She was a 1944 graduate of Hatley High School and prior to her retirement, she worked for United Technologies. A faithful member of the Christian Chapel Church of Christ. Of her many church activities, she was a member of the Lady Bugs and sewed teddy bears for children in the hospital. Her hobbies included reading, working word puzzles, yard work, and taking church trips.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the Christian Chapel Church of Christ with Ministers Marshall Eubanks, Jr. and Bobby Cleveland officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery. Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Scott Graves (Stacy) of Columbus and George Graves (Tiffany) of Columbus; one daughter, Nina Spann (Larry) of Hatley; one sister, Hazel Jean Glasscock of Ponca City, OK; 7 grandchildren, Lori Mills (Joey), Larry Spann II (Kerri), Brad Spann (Haley Reeves), Zack Graves, J.C. Redden, Adam Graves, and Devin Graves; 3 great grandchildren, Colby and Chloe Mills and Cora Spann; a host of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Minnie Alice Pullen.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Coy Ausborn; and two sisters, Loy West and Grace Carter.
Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. on Monday evening and the body will lie in state from 10 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the church.
