Martha Jane Guyton, 78, died on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at her home. She was born on June 10, 1939 in Hatley to James M. and Mary Lucille Pickle Faulkner. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a seamstress in the area garment industry and later for Wal-Mart. A member of Grace Fellowship Baptist Church, she also had a love for children and often kept the nursery, rocking those little babies. Janie loved the outdoors and spending time at Blue Bluff Campground. She enjoyed watching hunting and cooking shows on television and going out to eat. A true matriarch, she loved to spend time with her family especially visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. With a quick wit and a feisty tongue, she would speak her mind all the while enjoying her time talking with others. Janie was a strong supporter of law enforcement, and she enjoyed listening to the police scanner often having a deep concern for the safety of the officers.
Funeral services for Mrs. Guyton will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 15, 2017 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Danny Burks and Bro. Chuck Moffett officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Michael Mills (Lisa) of Smithville; 3 daughters, Sybil Whitworth (Clayton) of Hamilton, Shae Guyton of Aberdeen, and Christina Farrar (Kevin) of Amory; two sisters, Mary Weathers of Coldwater, MS and Karen Hicks (Benny) of Nesbit; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ora Guyton; one son, James Mills; one brother, Jimmy Faulkner; and two great granddaughters, River and Haven Mills.
Pallbearers will be Joey Mills, Jamie Mills, Josh Mills, John Mills, Bo Ford, Joe Cowart, Jeremy Farrar, and Teddy Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Mills, Jr., Daniel Farrar, Parker Mills, Elijah Mills, Barrett Mills, Brandon Powell, and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
