Jamie Gillentine

April 20, 1989 — January 15, 2021

James Michael Gillentine, 31, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, January 15, 2021. He was born on April 20, 1989 in Tupelo to Mike and Tammy Finn Gillentine. Jamie was an Amory High School Graduate of the Closs of 2007, he also was a graduate from ICC with an Associates Degree in Diesel Mechanics. He married Nikki Clayton on May 21, 2011. The Bible teaches us in Jeremiah that God has a plan and purpose for each person, even before they are born and Jamie was no exception. Being born to a singing and praying Momma and Daddy, he was reared in the Church, found his God given talent of singing, and began to serve the Lord singing with his family. At age 6, he knew that he wanted to be a preacher and in 2005, Jamie surrendered his life into the Lord’s work as a minister of the Gospel News of Jesus Christ. At age 17 he began to pastor Temple Grove Baptist Church, from there he pastored a number of years at Providence Baptist Church in Amory. After pastoring at Providence, Jamie, with God’s guidance and help from local believers, started House of Prayer Baptist Church where he served as the current pastor. His love for his creator led to a love for God’s handy work, the great outdoors that he loved to fish and hunt in. He enjoyed spending time piddling with his dad. Jamie was often found lending a helping hand to anyone in need. A faithful servant of God, Jamie is now experiencing the firsthand Majesty of his Father in Heaven. He would always close services by saying “I love you, but my Jesus loves you more” and his family would urge you to truly find the love of Jesus in your life. Jamie is survived by his wife, Nikki Clayton Gillentine; parents, Mike and Tammy Finn Gillentine, Brad and Jeannie Clayton; siblings, Crystal Cody (Michael), Deanna Cheree Gillentine Lyle (Matt) and Katie Clayton; grandparents, Kenneth and Judy Gillentine, honorary grandparents, Billy and Carolyn Kennedy; foster children, Nicholas St. Romain, Michael Holley and Carmello Edmond; nieces, Michaela and Carly Cody, Abigail, Finnley and Natalie Lyle; nephews, Caleb Cody and Micah Lyle. He is preceded in death by grandparents, Ruth (Pocket) Finn and James Walker Finn. Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, January 19 at the House of Prayer Baptist Church in Amory with Bro. Philip Lindsey and Bro. Scott Witcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Palestine Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Logan, David Logan, Chris Kyle, Buck Hester, Jason Culver and Dexter Goode. Honorary pallbearers will be Micah Lyle, Caleb Cody, Nicholas St. Romain, Michael Holley, Carmello Edmond and Reed Kyle. Visitation will be Monday evening at House of Prayer Baptist Church on 4th Avenue South in Amory from 5-8 PM. Donations may be given to House of Prayer Baptist Church Building Fund.
