James Moffett

James Edwin Moffett, 83, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2024 after a lengthy illness.  James was born in Becker, MS on August 3, 1940 to Elmer and Mary Moffett and was a member of Becker Baptist Church.  James married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Joy Bratton on March 27, 1959.  James and Wanda were married for 55 years before Wandas passing in 2014.

James is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brothers Jerry, Elmer Carlos, Howard, Walter. T.K. and Carroll; sister, Dorothy Clemens (Patrick); daughter. Tara Layne Moffett and a grandson, Kenneth Thornhill.

James is survived by his children, James Timothy Moffett (Angela) of Amory, Russell Moffett (Kristie) of Trussville, Al, Traci Carol Poole of Amory; sister, Frances Moffett; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

James' pride and joy were his grandchildren, Justin Moffett (Toria), Amory Newton (Brian), Jared Moffett (Skylar), Jerod Thornhill (Summer), Blake Moffett (Belle), Amber Haynes (Brian), Autumn Poole (Scott) and Ashley Scarnato, as well as his great grandchildren, Kincaid Moffett, Orin Moffett, Kylo Moffett, Iwan Moffett, Arlo Newton, Aurora Joy Corley, James Voss Corley, Russell Troy Corley, Christopher Sterling Corley, Makayden Thornhill, Kora-Blake Thornhill, Preston Hayes Thornhill and Jeremy Lynn Edwards.

James took great pride in his lifelong occupation of construction, building untold numbers of restaurants, convenience stores and numerous other structures in several states and he never missed an opportunity to point any of them out.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home in Amory.  Burial will follow in Greenbrier Cemetery.  Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. 

Visitation will be held at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home on Monday, July 8 from 5 PM until 7 PM.
