James Irvin

James Troy Irvin, 84, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2023 at his home in Hatley.  James was born in Sulligent, AL on November 12, 1938. He married the former Mary Ann Duncan on September 12, 1963 and they made their home in Aberdeen for 35 years, and later moved to Hatley where they have lived for the past 25 years.  He enlisted in the Alabama Army National Guard on September 30, 1973 and later retired after serving for 33 years.  He worked for Glenn Mfg. for 5 years and later went to work at Walker Manufacturing in Aberdeen where he would spend the next 35 years, retiring as assistant to the plant manager.  James and Mary Ann loved to travel and go camping and fishing and was a camp host each season for the Natchez Trace Wilderness Preserve for 16 years.  He was blessed with three children and was very involved in their activities.  James volunteered with the Aberdeen Girl Scouts and was very proud of his youngest daughter receiving the Girl Scout Gold Award.  During the Christmas season, he worked for Gray’s Christmas Tree Farm and most recently with Worthey Christmas Tree Farm.  James was a faithful member of the Christian Chapel Church of Christ.  He loved music especially classic country and one of his favorite past-times was sitting on his porch watching the traffic go by. 

 

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home with Bobby Cleveland and Ron Means officiating.  Burial will follow in in the Pope Cemetery near Sulligent.  

 

In addition to his wife of 59 years, Mary Ann, he is survived by one son, David Irvin (Sheila) of Gattman; one daughter, Beverly Means (Ron) of Henderson, TN; sister-in-law, Hazel Irvin Jones; brother-in-law, Bobby Feaker; grandchildren, Robbie Smith, Mary Elizabeth Means Kilpatrick (Neal), Ronald Means (Jessica), Matthew Irvin, and Jacob Feaker (Madison); great grandchildren, Tatum, Tillie, and Isobel Kilpatrick; and Layton Means.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Angela Niccole Irvin Feaker; 3 brothers, Ernest Irvin, E.G. Irvin, Joe Irvin; and 3 sisters, Fleeter Irvin Taylor, Dorothy Irvin Puckett, and Berthalou Irvin Moore;   Rose Marie and Stephanie Feaker.

 

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Puckett, Dean Irvin, Ronald Means, Matthew Irvin, Michael Humphries, and Jacob Feaker.  Honorary pallbearers will be current and past elders  and deacon of Christian Chapel Church of Christ.

 

Visitation will be on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the service hour.

 

Memorials may be made to the Christian Chapel Church of Christ, 60127 Vaughn Road, Amory, MS 38821.
