James William Blaylock, 65, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2019 at NMMC-Gilmore in Amory. James was born on August 19, 1953 in Sulligent to Condry and Arizona Hall Blaylock. He attended Hatley, Sulligent, and Amory schools, went to work for True Temper Sports in Amory and retired after 38 years. His smile was known by all and would always be ready to give an encouraging word. The father of one son, Mick, he loved to spend time with him whether it was SCUBA diving or supervising him in the shop and he was very devoted to his fiancée, Teresa. In addition to SCUBA diving, he enjoyed camping, watching Gunsmoke, and he was an Alabama Crimson Tide tan. James was a man of great faith and he served with deep passion as song leader at Faith Baptist Church.
Funeral services for James will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home with Bro. Harvey Coplin officiating. Visitation will be from 2 until 3:45 p.m. on Saturday also at the funeral home.
Survivors include his son, Mick Blaylock of Becker; fiancée, Teresa Carroll of Amory; two brothers, Rayburn Blaylock (Donna) of Amory and Don Browning (Jeanine) of Bartahatchie; nieces, Tammy Bruce and Beverly McDonald; nephew, Scotty Blaylock; a host of friends; and his grand-dog, Neiko.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles Blaylock; sister, Dean Dillard; and adopted parents, David and Verna Browning.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital.
