Amory- Lerah Hortense Palmer, 97, died Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Oak Tree Manor in Amory. Born November 28, 1919 in Lamar County Alabama to Calvin and Elizabeth Edgeworth Humphreys, she was one of nine children. She married Aquilis Sloan in 1937 and they raised 5 boys. Later in life she married Jack Palmer. Always ready to get in the car and go, she and Jack traveled many miles, going on cruises and taking several trips to Texas and Florida where they went to several revivals and camp meetings. Residing most of her life in Amory, she retired from the area garment plants. One who deeply loved her family, she always enjoyed spending time with them, family cookouts and visiting. A devout Christian, whose life was led by God, she was a member of Wildwood Chapel Baptist Church. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, gardening, listening to preachers on the TV and listening to Gospel Music.
She is survived by her sons, Paul Sloan, Larry Sloan (Mary Jo), Bobby Sloan (Frances) and Terry Sloan (Frankie) all of Amory; 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren and her beloved dog, Dixie.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she is preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Lynn Sloan; grandchildren, Jerry and Barry Sloan; great grandchildren, Beverly Dawn Moffett and Jeremy Sloan.
Funeral Services will be held at 2PM, Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home with Bro. Chuck Moffett officiating. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Boyd, David Dodd, Andy Sloan, Jake Sloan, Tony Sloan, Randy Sloan, Brian King and Jake Moffett. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Dale Sloan and the Staff of Oak Tree Manor.
Visitation will be Monday evening at the funeral home from 5-8 PM.
