Hollis Parker, 92, passed away June 30, 2019 at Diversicare of Amory. Hollis was born on April 24, 1927 in Itawamba County, MS to the late Walter Alexander and Minnie Pearl Morse Parker. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during WW2, dispatched out of Boston Harbor to the North Atlantic, serving in Iceland and Greenland. On March 15, 1957 he married Barbara Ridings and together they raised 3 children. After lifetime of working in the electrical field, Hollis retired from TVA as a maintenance technician. He was a proud member of over 60 years in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union. In his free time, he enjoyed coon hunting, listening to bluegrass music, volunteering with the Baptist Children’s Village and lending a helping hand to anyone in need, doing vast amounts of electrical work at no charge for several churches. More than anything, Hollis enjoyed being with his family. A devoted and faithful Christian, he was a member of Meadowood Baptist Church where he, along with his family volunteered with the bus Ministry. Later on, he became a member of Wildwood Chapel Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Barbara Parker, Amory; daughter, Dian Wilemon (Eddie), Amory; sons, Roger Parker (Vivi Anne), Tupelo and Melvin Parker (Donna), Nettleton; sister, Helen Patton, Amory; grandchildren, Brandy Lindsey, Jesse Lindsey, Anna Lauren Parker, Savannah Parker, Daniel Parker, Jackson Parker, Mason Stevens and Marlie Stevens; great grandchildren, Reed and Frankie Lindsey, Dawson and Nora Stevens and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, Nettie Shackelford and Margie Gray; brothers, S.B. Parker, Swiss Parker, Walter Lee Parker and Charles Parker.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on July 3, 2019 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home with Dr. Lloyd Sweat and Bro. Chuck Moffett officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Russell Shackelford, Wayne Parker, Ralph Senter, Mike Patton, David Parker, Eddie Wilemon and Eddie Tubb.
Visitation will be on Tuesday afternoon at the funeral home from 5-8 PM.
