Hilda Elizabeth Brasher Cline, 76, passed away in the early hours of Friday, June 14 2024, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Hilda was a graduate of Pineville High School, Pineville, LA, and Northwest Junior College, Senatobia, MS. While attending Northwest she was active in theater and played the roles of “Baroness” in The Sound of Music and “Annie” in Annie Get Your Gun. She received both her Bachelor and Master of Music Education degrees from Ole Miss. She also attained the honors of National Board Certified Teacher and Teacher of the Year for Aberdeen Schools.
She loved being a public school music teacher and sharing her passion for the stage with young musicians. For 34 years, her students presented 4 programs each year as well as other performances. Totaling 175 programs for public elementary students, most of which she wrote herself.
Hilda earned the affectionate nickname of “The Energizer Bunny” from her late husband. She was actively engaged in her children and grandchildren’s lives, always creating fun memories for them. Whether it was picnics at the lake, playing chickenfoot or scrabble, making sugar cookies and spice tea, or playing the piano and singing songs, Hilda was always ready to make everyone feel special.
In her spare time, Hilda enjoyed cross-stitch and made countless name graphs for newlyweds and special friends. She loved fishing with a cane pole and worm. Football was her favorite season. She cheered for both teams but always had a special desire for the underdog to win. She was an avid cook and had a tendency to “feed the neighborhood”. She was featured in the Tupelo Daily Journal as part of their “Local Cook” series which shared some of her favorite recipes.
Hilda had a strong faith in Jesus. She taught Sunday School and GMA’s, as well as coordinated many programs for church. She served on the Kitchen Crew, Community Bible Study, was a prayer warrior and church pianist for many years. She was a faithful witness even on her deathbed, praying for and encouraging every person who entered her room to care for her. Together R.D. and Hilda Cline ministered all over Mississippi for 40+ years sharing the gospel and God’s love with others. They leave a legacy of foundational faith in God’s Word to their family.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, R.D. Cline; her parents Buford & Syble Brasher, Grandparents Truman & Alpha Massey, and Rev. Floyd & Georgie Brasher.
Hilda is survived by 2 Sisters: Diane Young (Mike) and Janet Jenkins (Ronald); 5 daughters: Mechelle Tuttle (Mike); Carla Lee (Anders), Amy Kuykendall (Nathan), Rachel Pomeroy (Billy), and Sarah Stevens (Michael); 14 Grandchildren: Ryan Tuttle (Jess), Drew Tuttle, Zac Lee, Reagan Lee (Makenna), Siera Lee, Eva Beachum, Simon Lee, Jonathan Beachum, Canary Stevens, Nellie Rose Pomeroy, Jack Stevens, Caleb Kuykendall, Ruby Stevens, Frank Stevens; 2 Great Grandchildren: Zee Lee and Luka Lee; many nieces and nephew, and countless friends.
Services will be held at Meadowood Baptist Church in Amory, MS. Visitation will be Friday, June 21, from 5-7 pm. Celebration of Life will be Saturday, June 22, at 10 am. Private burial will be immediately following at New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Zac Lee, Drew Tuttle, Reagan Lee, Simon Lee, Jonathan Beachum, Noah Ivy, Jack Stevens, Caleb Kuykendall and Zeke Lee.
