Hershell Wells, 80, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at The Meadows in Fulton. He was born on January 20, 1943 in Monroe County to Hurshell Jack and Ovie Nabors Wells. Hershell was a 1961 graduate of Hatley High School and furthered his education at Itawamba Junior College. He also attended Mississippi State University to obtain his teaching license. He was a tool and die maker for Walker Manufacturing for many years before transitioning to Amory High School where he was the metal fabrication instructor at the career tech center, retiring after 20 years. Hershell proudly served and retired from the Mississippi Army National Guard assigned to the 1-198th Armored Division and was activated during Operation Desert Storm. He was a devoted husband who loved his family dearly and he was a faithful member of Christian Chapel Church of Christ. His hobbies included gardening, fooling with old tractors, and collecting lawn mowers.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Sam Carpenter and Bobby Cleveland officiating. Burial will follow in the Hatley Cemetery.
He is survived by two sons, Nikkyle Wells (Ashleigh) of Amory and Jace Wells (Rebekah) of Hatley; two grandchildren, Anna Claire Wells and Jon Wells; special friends, Ralph Dill, Joyce Howell, and Sam Carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judy Nash Wells; one brother, Mike Wells; two sisters, Barbara Ellen Phillips and Tula Nichols; and son, Jon Wells.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 11 a.m. until service time at 1.
