Amory- Herschel Hampton Ritter, 91, passed away at his residence on Monday, December 17, 2018. He was born February 9, 1927 in Amory to the late Era and Dewdrop Lewis Ritter. Growing up in Amory, Herschel graduated from Amory High School Class of 1944. On February 22, 1948 he married Mae Gilmore. Herschel worked for Mississippi Valley gas for 30 years and retired from Refine Metals Corporation in Memphis. Civic minded and desiring to be a positive influence in the community, he was a member of the Lions Club, Rotary Club and Exchange Club in addition to being a volunteer firefighter for many years. An avid sportsman, he loved dove and quail hunting, but his passion was bass fishing. Herschel loved being on the lake at sunrise hoping to land that big bass. Extremely generous and eager to spread the joy of fishing, Herschel would often take people to the lake and enjoyed watching others catch all of the fish. Most of all, his life was guided by his faith and he spent a lifetime working in the church.
