Hatley- Gregory Shane Bennett, 45 died Friday evening July 20, 2018 in Pontotoc after a sudden illness. Born July 25, 1972 in Amory, he was a son of Tinze and Jeanette Stephenson Bennett. Growing up in Smithville, Greg was a graduate of Smithville High School and was the quarterback on the varsity football team. He married Amanda Killough and together, they had 3 wonderful children. A true outdoorsman, he loved spending time outdoors and especially loved the life of being a logger, until a logging accident left him disabled. He also enjoyed spending time with his family camping and spending time on the water. Actively involved in his children’s lives, his greatest joy was coaching his kids in little league and watching them play sports. Greg was a Smithville Seminole through and through, until his children became Hatley Tigers leaving Greg no choice but to become a Tiger himself! He was also a Florida State University fan, an undeniable mama’s boy and an exceptional cook. Greg was a member of Christian Chapel Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Amanda Bennett, Hatley; children, Maxwell Shane Bennett, Brady Ty Bennett and Bailey Grace Bennett, all of the home; his mother, Jeanette Bennett, Hatley; brothers, Steven Bennett (Vickie), Hamilton, Al, Phillip Bennett (Jennifer), Vernon, Al, and Gary Bennett (Dusty), Greenwood Springs; sister, Regina Lann (Michael), Smithville and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, IJ Stephenson and Nellie Stephenson Knight; Hoyle and Rachel Bennett.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home with Minister Marshall Eubanks and Bro. B.J. Mills officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tyler Humble, Chris Kidd, Jody Powell, Hunter Bennett, Tim Bennett and Derrick Northington.
Visitation will be Monday Evening at the Funeral home from 5-8 PM.
