Geraldine Ritter

Geraldine T. Ritter, 87, died on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at her home. Born July 21, 1928 in Woodland, MS she was a daughter of Roy and Lera Turner. A graduate of Becker School, she began her teaching career at the age of 16 and she attended the University of Southern Mississippi and received her Bachelor of Science degree in August of 1954. She taught in the Monroe and Lee County School Systems retiring after having taught for 35 years. She was a member of the Mississippi Retired Teacher Association and a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Amory. She married Tommy H. Ritter on December 22, 1955. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, gardening, and playing the piano. A Celebration of Life service will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2015 at the Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Chris Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery in Amory. Survivors include two sisters, Jeanette Cantrell (Voy) and Barbara Rollins (James); three grandchildren, John Ritter (Marie), Leigh Ann Burt (Pee Wee), and Tommy C. Ritter, Jr.; 5 great grandchildren, Britney Bridges (Brett), Rob Neiswinger (Amber), Tiffany Ritter, Tracy and Zack Campbell; one great-great grandchild, Kayden Bridges “Lil Dumplin”; sister-in-law, Obion Turner; 2 daughters-in-law, Charlotte Ritter and Peggy Ritter; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents; one brother, Lester Turner; two sisters, Marie Bailey and Carolyn Seymore; two sons, Tommy C. and Thomas Earl Ritter; and one grandson, Richard Andrew Ritter. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Steve Turner, Kenny Bailey, John Seymore, Rickey Harris, Jeff Bishop, and Roman Doty. Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home.
