Evelyn Stanford

Evelyn Easley Howell Stanford, 83, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022 at Diversicare Nursing and Rehab in Amory.  She was born in Mathiston on July 9, 1938 to S.C. and Ethel Dye Easley.  Evelyn was a graduate of Becker school and prior to her retirement, she worked for Amory Garment Co. and in area flower shops.  She and her late husband, Jack Mattox Howell operated an appliance store and a daycare.  After Jack’s death in 1989, Evelyn married Earnest Stanford in 1991 who also preceded her in death.  She had a strong will and was a hard worker.   She could often be found in her yard working with her flowers and she was a faithful and dedicated member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in Hatley.

A private family funeral service will be held at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home.  

She is survived by one daughter Sheila H. Nivens (Ron) of Amory; two sisters, Betty Shields and Anne Smith both of Amory; granddaughter, Jaclyn M. Walters (Aaron); two great-grandchildren, Mattox and Braxton Walters; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mabel Tackett, Nellie Faye Cooper, and Nettie Easley; and two brothers, Edward Easley and Jesse Easley.

Memorials may be made to New Hope Primitive Baptist Church.
