Edward Walker Burks, 73, died on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the Merit Health River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. Born January 5, 1943 in Amory, he was a son of Everitt Walker and Laura Lee Irvin Burks. A lifelong resident of Amory, until recently moving to Vicksburg to be with his son, he was a graduate of Amory High School and he also attended Itawamba Junior College. Prior to his retirement, he worked for Walker Manufacturing for 10 years and later with True Temper Sports with 30 years of dedicated service. He proudly served in the National Guard and he was a member of the J.A. Mayfield Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed trading guns and piddling in his shop. Having a knack for designing, he built antique motors from raw material. Enjoying Ham radios, he operated under the call sign WA5YDI. In earlier years, he attended St. Andrews United Methodist Church and he cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.
Services will be 2 p.m. on Monday, March 28, 2016 at the Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Lloyd Minor officiating. Burial will be in the Amory Historical Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Ann Moffett Burks of Vicksburg; two sons, Chris Burks (Tanya) of Vicksburg and Erik W. Burks of Jackson; 7 grandchildren, Tara Burks, David “Bear” Burks, Tanner Griggs, Kimberly Jefferson, Reed Goodson, Kyler Griggs, and Annabelle Griggs; one great grandchild, Coraline Griggs; aunt, Wanda Faye Alverson of Biloxi; several cousins; and close friends, Jimmy Armstrong and Jimmy Wiygul.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Armstrong, Kyler Griggs, Reed Goodson, Tanner Griggs, Bryan Moffett, and Doug Moffett. Honorary pallbearers will be Rickey Lyle, David Moffett, Butch Moffett, and Ricky Moffett.
Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home.
