Hatley

Earline Phillips Capps, 84, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Diversicare Nursing Home in Amory. Born on December 5, 1939 in Monroe County, she was a daughter to Neville and Maudie May Mathis Phillips.  She attended Hatley School and was the widow of Jame E. Capps, Sr. whom she married on April 12, 1958.  Earline retired from Amory Garment Plant in Hatley and she enjoyed working word search puzzles, watching westerns and cooking shows along with all the old classic television shows.  She was a member of Smithville Church of Christ but had recently been attending Christian Chapel Church of Christ.  

 

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home with Ministers Mickey Beam and Bobby Cleveland officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hatley Cemetery.  

 

She is survived by her son, James T. Capps, Jr. of Hatley; her brothers, Howard Phillips (Hazel) of Gattman; brother-in-law, Rodney Capps of Smithville; sisters, Fay Dean Wright (Junior) of Amory, Josephine Smith (Gray) of Bigbee; sister-in-law, Brenda Salinas of Texas, Debbie Capps of Gautier, MS, and Norma Capps of Amory; special friend, Billie Jean Gray of Amory; and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James T. Capps, Sr.; infant daughter, Wanda Faye Capps; brothers, Harold Phillips and Leon Phillips; sister, Louise Cox; brothers-in-law, Ollie Tucker (Shirley), Wayne Capps, H.W. Capps, Jerry Capps, and Charlie Capps.

 

Pallbearers will be Jay Criddle, Charles Davis, Raymond Tucker, Sam Jones, Waylon Powell, and Jason Flippo.   Honorary pallbearers will be Dakota Hawkins, Michael Williams, Cole and Logan Flippo, John Phillips, Jason Sink, and Jimmy Sink.

 

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
