Durward L. Staten, Sr., 80, passed away on April 28, 2016 at the Shearer Richardson Nursing Home in Okolona. Durward was born on September 14, 1935 in Una, to Samuel Dilworth and Myrtle Eva Lawson Staten. He was a member of the Amory Church of Christ and prior to his retirement, he worked at Meadow Sportsware in Okolona in the pressing and cutting department. He married Alma Juanita Armstrong on March 6, 1954, in the Palo Alto Community of Clay County and they were married for 62 years.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, April, 30, 2016 at the Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Minister Leslie Grant and Minister Doyce Britt officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Una.
Survivors include his wife, Nita Armstrong Staten of Amory; two daughters, Cynthia Diane Cowart (Jim) of Davenport, FL and Angela Staten McRee of Amory; one son, Durward Leon Staten, Jr. (Cindy) of Springhill, TN; Caitlin Cowart (Jordan Campbell), Carly Cousins (Shane), Toni Camp (Alan), Meah Hamrick (Justin), Mae Jones, Ben McRee, Sara McRee Cox (Bryan), and David McRee; 7 great grandchildren, Jaci Cousins, Sophia Camp, Preston Camp, Jericho Jones, Addison McRee, Callan Haze McRee, and Sadie Faye Campbell; two sisters, Sally Pate of West Point and Mary Crosswhite of Prarie; and one brother, Paul Staten.
He was preceded in death a grandson, Robert Daniel McRee; and six brothers, William, Raymond, Woodrow, Silas, John Ray, and Rubert Staten.
Pallbearers will be Ben McRee, David McRee, Bryan Cox, John Michael Carey, Curtis Alan Maharrey, Ray Armstrong, Shane Cousins, and Justin Hamrick.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
