He was a man who loved big and loved hard, and his presence in the lives of those who knew him will be deeply missed.
Dennis was a devoted husband to his wife, Juanita "Nita" Hathcock, whom he married on November 14, 1986. Their 38 years of marriage were marked by unwavering love, mutual respect, and a partnership that grew stronger with each passing day. Dennis’ love for Nita was evident in everything he did, and they shared a bond that lasted until his final moments.
Dennis was the proud father of three daughters—Katie (Jason) Spencer, Callie (Charles) Moore, and Christy (Nick) Lancaster. His greatest joy in life came from his family, and nothing made him happier than having all three of his girls together under one roof. The apple of his eye, his grandson Finn Liam Lancaster, and he was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his newest grandson, Henry Owen, this summer. His love for his family knew no bounds, and his legacy will continue to live on through his children and grandchildren.
An avid farmer, Dennis found joy in the land he worked and the life he built with his family. He was also a lifelong Mississippi State University fan, and his loyalty to the Bulldogs was unwavering. He was raised in Gregory Chapel Church in Amory and currently attended Meadowood Baptist Church where his faith was evident in both his actions and his words.
Dennis was a 1981 graduate of Amory High School and a 1985 graduate of Mississippi State University. He was an active member in Mississippi Farm Bureau, serving many terms on the Monroe County Board of Directors. He was a dedicated employee at ITT Engineered Valves for 22 years, where he worked until his passing. His strong work ethic, integrity, and dedication to his job were a testament to his character.
Dennis was also a passionate animal lover, a trait that his daughters all inherited and cherished. He had a deep affection for animals and always ensured they were well cared for, creating a home filled with love for both family and animals alike. He was known for cooking delicious meals for friends and family, and the best meals always included popcorn (with Finn’s special touch) and Mississippi State Edam cheese, which became a signature part of his gatherings.
Raised by his grandmother, Callie Cody, Dennis was shaped by her love and guidance from a young age. She was an important figure in his life, and her influence played a significant role in the man he became.
