Daisy Charlene McAnally Jones, 88, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at North Mississippi Medical Center-Gilmore in Amory. Born on February 2, 1931, Daisy was a daughter to Charley and Zelda English McAnally and as a young girl, she and her family were sharecroppers and Daisy would work the fields. She graduated top of her class at Becker High School in 1948 where she played on the basketball team. In 1948, she married Leonard Ray Jones after his return from WWII. A devoted homemaker, she raised 4 children all the while working at Wilson Mfg. as a seamstress and her devotion was instrumental in the raising of her grandchildren. With an adventurous spirit, she, along with her husband, traveled across the United States and even to Alaska. Daisy was a faithful member of Athens Baptist Church and enjoyed helping with VBS. In addition, she was civic minded in which she was always called upon to be and election poll worker. Recently a resident of Oak Tree Mano, she enjoyed her numerous friends and staff there.
A memorial service for Daisy will be at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at the Athens Baptist Church with Bro. Butch Moore officiating. Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Clifford Ray Jones (Diane) of Buda, TX; two daughters, Betty Gill (Richard) of Columbus, MS and Nancy Thomas (Dwight) of Jacksonville, FL; one brother, Don McAnally (Ruth) of Nauvoo, AL ; two sisters, Shirley Morgan (Jimmy) of Becker and Katie Nordstrom, Valrico, FL; 9 grandchildren, Tiffany Holder (Ray), Debbie Williams, April Atkins, Karen Hinshaw (Elijah), Amber Gill, Jason Tirado (Dana), Daniel Cohen (Michelle), Bobby Jones (Anne) of Atlanta, and Susanna Cohen (Chris); 13 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews and special friends at Oak Tree.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Bobby Jones; great granddaughter, Raven Holder; 4 sisters; and 2 brothers.
Visitation will follow after the service at the church on Tuesday.
