Curtis Calvin Ausborne, 78, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at the Tupelo Nursing and Rehabilitation in Tupelo. Curtis was born in Memphis, TN on March 11, 1941 to Hershel Laverne Malone Ausborne. Curtis grew up in Tyronza, AR and worked in the cotton fields picking alongside Johnny Cash at an early age. He moved to Amory in 1959 to take a job with Glenn Manufacturing, eventually retiring with over 50 years of service. In 1961, Curtis married the former Peggy Little of the Parham Community. He was a gifted musician who loved to play music and had a way to make others laugh. In addition to his music, he enjoyed fishing, loved to cook and grill out with his family. Curtis was a faithful member of Christian Chapel Church of Christ where he always found a way to be involved.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 14, 2019 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Ministers Marshall Eubanks and Derrick Maranto officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife Peggy Ausborne of Smithville; one son, Tony Ausborne of Fulton; one daughter, Debbie Downs of Smithville; one brother, Larry Ausborne (Brenda) of Hatley; three grandchildren, Kristan Taylor (Derrick), Kaitlan Harper (Derek), and Karlee Downs; one great grandchild, Eliana Taylor and soon to be born, Baby Harper; a host of special friends.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Terry Downs.
Pallbearers will be Barney Vann, Jerry Roche, Harry Donavan, Bryan Wilkerson, Rick Stafford, Caleb Nowell, and Billy Sizemore. Honorary pallbearers will be the elders at Christian Chapel Church and Christ and the staff of Tupelo Nursing and Rehab.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
