Clay Lewis Thompson, 49, passed away on Saturday March 30, 2019 at his home. Born on March 8, 1970, he was a son to Howell Dwain and Nellie Fay Carter Thompson. Clay was an honors graduate, class of 1988, from Smithville High School. Before being involved in an accident and becoming disabled, he worked in the area furniture plants. A Mason, he was a member of the Smithville Lodge, Master of the Splunge Lodge and Aberdeen, and he was an officer in the Eastern Star. As an animal lover, his dog Mason was his pride. A people person, he enjoyed the simple pastime of visiting and talking. Clay took pride in his heritage and displayed that in his membership of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
A graveside service with Masonic Rites will be on Friday, April 5, 2019 at Pearce Chapel Cemetery. Visitation for Clay will be on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home.
Survivors include his mother, Nellie Fay Carter of Smithville; two brothers, Brad Thompson (Twyla) of Smithville and Chad Thompson (Dawn) of Amory; nephew, Kendall Thompson; niece Emily Thompson; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends; and special friend and neighbor, Wesley Hopkins (Joan).
He was preceded in death by a son, Lee Thompson; and his father.
