Clark Poppell

July 17, 1996 — September 26, 2024

Amory

Clark James Poppell, 28, passed away from a sudden illness on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. Born on July 17, 1996 in Peoria, IL he was a son to James and Sylvia Poppell Menold. Clark grew up in the Amory and Smithville areas and he was a 2016 graduate of Smithville High School where he played trumpet in the band. Clark had many descriptions, but none was more important than being the best father to Ali. In fact, he was known as “uncle” and “dad” to a number of kids. He loved his family fiercely and was a friend to countless others. Through is contagious laugh and bright smile, he was a great encourager to all. Clark never met a stranger and always sought opportunities to help anyone and never said, “No.” He touched lives all over the world through online gaming, and he loved to hike and would travel miles to explore the next destination. A hard worker, he was partner with his father in the paving business and he was a faithful member of Cross Bound Church in Smithville.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Cross Bound Church in Smithville with Bro. Kevin Crook and Bro. Brandon Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Young Memorial Gardens in Smithville. Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

He is survived by his father and mother, James and Sylvia Poppell Menold, Amory; his daughter, Ali Poppell; two brothers, Jake McClary (Rachel), Smithville and Rick Ransburg (Savannah), Montana; three sisters, Savannah Stevens (T.J.), Smithville, Annie Poppell, Smithville, and Alyssa Weaver (Adam) of Georgia; his nieces and nephews, Justin and Isla Stevens, Jaxon and Carter Ransburg, and Sonya McClary; and his grandparents, Tommy Poppell and Betty Jo Willis and Scott and Philis Menold.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Teresa Jackson; grandfather, Edward Willis; and nephew, Owen Stevens.

Pallbearers will be Ethan Morris, Waylon Raines, Adam Weaver, Jeffery Vice, Ethan Brown, and T.J. Stevens. Honorary pallbearer will be Justin Stevens.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. at Cross Bound Church on Friday evening.
