Becker- Christine Sanders Moffett, 101, died Friday, September 9, 2016 at Merit Health Gilmore Memorial Hospital. She was born July 27, 1915 in Monroe County to LyCurgus and Corrie Walters Sanders.
She grew up and lived most of her life in the Acker Switch area of Becker. Christine married Elmo C. Moffett on Christmas Day in 1932. Together they owned and operated E.C. Moffett Grocery in Becker and also worked at Amory Garment Co. A devoted wife and mother, she later became a homemaker and raised their 3 children. With deep faith that guided her life, she was a longtime member of Antioch Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, fishing, birdwatching, baking tea cakes and mowing her yard. Christine loved life and was blessed with a long fruitful life, seeing several generations of her family born. She also became Amory’s oldest citizen. More than all of life’s enjoyments she had, her best times were spent with her family and taking care of them.
She is survived by her daughter, Muriel Diane Davis (Raymond), Becker; son, Donnie Ray Moffett (Barbara), Becker; daughter in law, Dorothy Moffett, Becker; 8 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 28 great great grandchildren and 1 great great great grandchild; a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by a son, Elmo Carlos Moffett, Jr., sister, Virginia Fern Sanders and a brother, Tommie Jewel Sanders.
Funeral services will be at 2 PM on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home with Bro. Roy Mc Henry, Bro. Bubba Kennedy and Bro. Shay Johnson. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Moffett, Tommy Moffett, Matthew Moffett, Aaron Moffett, Heath Moffett, Caleb Summerford, Luke Summerford, Alex Tubb, Bo Camp, Brandon Camp and Austin Johnson.
Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Saturday Evening at the funeral home.
