Christeen Carpenter, 98, left her earthly home for her heavenly home on Sunday, April 7, 2019 after an extended illness as a resident of Diversicare Nursing Home. She was surrounded by those that loved her and knew her as a strong, independent woman who nurtured and loved her children and grandchildren dearly.
Born in Pecan Gap, Texas on December 12, 1920, she was a daughter of Jeff Rea and Mattie Williams Rea. Christeen attended Wren School and was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. Being a talented seamstress, she worked at Amory Garment for many years until her retirement. She also took great pride in sewing clothes for her family, even until recent years. Her hobbies were working in the yard and tending to her garden.
Funeral services for Christeen will be at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home in Amory on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. with Bro. Chuck Moffett , Bro. Bobby Cleveland, and Bro. David Highland officiating. Burial will follow in the Masonic Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and great grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her two daughters, Betty Parham Miller of Hatley and Julia Rea Bickerstaff of the Carolina Community; grandchildren, Keith Parham (Dottie) of Becker, Scott Parham (Angel) of Amory, Jennifer Taylor (Tommy) of Hatley, Chrissy Garner (Terry) of Amory, Sherry Guin (Mike) of Nettleton, Susie Presley of Amory, Corby Bickerstaff (Crystal) of the Carolina Community; one sister, Ruth Farrar of Amory; 15 great grandchildren; 21 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ellis Carpenter; the father of her children, Leonard Conwill; three sisters, Dora Lee Conwill, Clara Mae Dykes, and Mattie Frances Stewart; two brothers, Rubel Rea and Bud Rea; three sons-in-law, Paul R. Parham, Pete Miller, and C.B. Bickerstaff; grandson Anthony Parham, Jason Bickerstaff, and Richard Parham; one great grandson, Jamie Knight; and one great-great grandson, Clark Parham.
