Radio voice, DJ, funny man and all-around good guy, Chris Burks, 44, passed away at River Region Hospital in Vicksburg after a brief illness. Born on May 19, 1979, in Mobile, AL, he was a son to Edward and Betty Ann Moffett Burks. A graduate of Hatley High School, all his professional life was in radio starting in Amory. As co-host of the Drumm and Burk Show, he was with 98.5 in Tupelo before gravitating to Memphis. For the past 15 years, he has lived in Vicksburg and was affiliated with River 101. Known for his humor and incredible personality, he will be remembered as a staple in the community. He looked forward to all community events and was very passionate about children. He hosted the Batson Children’s Hospital Radiothon, Chili for Children, and Jacob’s Ladder. Chris was just a big kid at heart and collected toys whether Batman, Transformers, Airwolf, or Knight Rider. In addition, he loved watching horror movies. Everyone who knew him, knew the kind of heart that he had, and he was loved by all. He had his own DJ business, DJ Burks and loved to have a good time. Above all, Chris loved and adored his family. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life. He was a member of the Methodist church.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home with Bro. Chuck Moffett officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 p.m.
He is survived by his wife, Tanya Burks of Vicksburg; three sons, Reed Goodson, Saltillo, Tanner Griggs and Kyler Griggs, both of Dorsey; daughters, Kimberlyn Jefferson (Dillon), Brandon, MS and Annabelle Griggs, Vicksburg; one brother, Eric Burks; grandchildren, Coraline Griggs, Newt Jefferson, and Vivian Jefferson; and a host of extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents, Charlie and Willie Lee Moffett and Everett and Laura Burks.
Memorials may be made to Blair Batson Children’s Hospital, Jackson or to Jacob’s Ladder.
