Bonita Pearson

Bonita Dawn Nash Pearson, passed from this earthly life and entered Heaven on Friday, October 20, 2023 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi. She was born in Monroe County, Mississippi on November 15, 1935 as the only child to the late Eron and Jewel Nash.  Bonita was a life-long member at Christian Chapel Church of Christ, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years among many other roles. Her unwavering faith in our Lord and Savior was evident throughout her life through her actions and interactions with others. She will be remembered for her genuine kindness, easy smile, and loving nature to others.  Bonita was a stay-at-home mother for many years and after her children grew up, she began her career as a bank teller at Security Bank of Amory, where she worked until her retirement.  Upon retirement, she and her husband, Billy enjoyed traveling and enjoyed many trips with their family and close friends.  

Bonita had a fierce and protective love for her family. She was never happier than surrounded by her family members whether for a weekend at home, a summer vacation together or holiday events.  She always kept her large farm table full of delicious food whatever the occasion. Her family surrounded the table long after the meal telling jokes, laughing, and sharing stories together.  Her homemade biscuits and Golden Eagle syrup were beloved by every family member and to this day cannot be duplicated to match the deliciousness of her originals. 

Bonita had many life-long friendships that were an integral part of her life.  Billy & Bonita were always hospitable, they loved nothing more than enjoying conversations & laughs over cheese & crackers in their homes, out eating at a restaurant, or a road trip with these special friends. 

A service to celebrate the life of Bonita will be held at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home on Monday, October 23, 2023 at 2pm.   The family will begin receiving friends at 12 pm until the service begins at 2 pm.  Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery.

 She is survived by her three children,  Alan (Brenda) Pearson of Amory, Mississippi; Vicky (Kent) Carter of Jackson, Tennessee and Suzanne (Donny) Watson of Birmingham, Alabama. She also leaves behind six beloved grandchildren; Jana Pearson of Santa Barbara, California; Brian (Sara Beth) Pearson of Amory, Mississippi; Whitney (Travis) Young of Jackson, Tennessee; Shelley (Ben) Vaughn of Jenison, Michigan; Megan Watson of Asheville, North Carolina & Paige (Ben) Meade of Spring Hill, Tennessee, as well as seven great-grandchildren; Parker & Jordan Pearson, Camille & Levi Young, Miles, Hazel & Leo Vaughn.

Bonita was preceded in death by her parents and her high school sweetheart and husband of 62 years, Billy Pearson.

Pallbearers will be Randy Gray, Vaughn Howell, Mike Hurley, Lowell Worthey, Ben Meade, and Travis Young.  Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Carpenter and Steve Young.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, to make memorial contributions to Christian Chapel Church of Christ.
