Bobby Joe Towery, 78, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2023 at North Mississippi Medical Center-Gilmore. He was born on August 18, 1945 in Monroe County to Cluster Vertis “Mug” and Pearlie Mae Johnson Towery. A lifelong resident of Monroe County, he married Mavis Knight on June 9, 1990. Prior to retiring, he worked in maintenance at the bentonite plant for many years. His hobbies included fishing and he was always known for his embellished fishing tales; also, he was an avid NASCAR fan, but his greatest pride was his grandchildren. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Nettleton.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 22, 2024 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home with Bro. Chuck Moffett officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery.
In addition to his wife, Mavis Towery, he is survived by two sons, Bobby Keith Towery (Lisa) of Smithville and Bruce Benton (Lori) of Smithville; one sister, Bernice Lloyd of Amory; 6 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Kimberly Murray; 3 brothers, Eddie, R.C., and W.C. Towery; and sister, Mildred Bridges.
Pallbearers will be Jesse Sanderson, Austin Towery, Austin Craig, Jeremy Dodd; Tyler Murray, and Kamron Benton. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnnie Guthrie, Shane Murray, and Joe Shackelford.
Visitation will be from noon until the service hour on Monday.
