Betsy Faye Hurley Weaver Riggans, 83, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2020 at North Mississippi Medical Center-Gilmore in Amory. Born on May 26, 1936 in the Quincy Community of Monroe County, she was a daughter of Fred and Jesker Holloway Hurley. She attended Greenwood Spring schools and in 1952, she married Bernie Lee Weaver. In 1955, she and her husband moved to Des Plains, IL where they operated several service stations together. In 1973, they moved back to Monroe County to make Smithville their home and operated Weaver’s Grocery in Amory. She later married John B. Riggan and after her retirement from the garment industry, she operated Riggan’s Flowers in Smithville and loved her clients. In addition to cooking, she was an expert seamstress and she enjoyed spending time with her family spoiling her grandchildren whom she adored. As her health allowed, she attended Bigbee Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Todd officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Randall Lee Weaver of Amory; two daughters, Doris Kellum (Paul) of Smithville and Lois Allred (Tank) of Amory; three brothers, Jimmy Hurley (Linda) of Amory, Raymond Hurley (Cecile) of Eggville, and James Hurley; one sister, Shirley Hurley of Smithville; grandchildren, Mistie Franklin, Shawn Franklin (Stephanie), Jason Szerkins, Michael Szerkins, Brandy Adams, Amy Cox, Richard Allred (Candi), Daniel Allred, and PeeWee Allred; 16 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a host of niece and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, son, Micheal Ray Weaver; her brothers, Russell Hurley, Grady Hurley, and Doyle Hurley; and sisters, Lenny May Hurley and Helen Hurley.
Pallbearers will be Austin Adams, Cameron Cox, Richard Allred, Daniel Allred, PeeWee Allred, Shawn Franklin, and Jason Szerkins.
Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
