Barbara Joyce Jenkins, 77, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at her home. A daughter of Dee Kay and Mary Evelyn Trimm Shackleford, she was born on November 17, 1944, in Shannon. Growing up in Shannon, she graduated Shannon High School and furthered her education, earning her LPN certificate from Itawamba Junior College in 1967. Beginning a long career, she was a truly devoted nurse who cared for her patients like her own family whether it was in the area nursing homes, the Aberdeen hospital, or Gilmore Memorial Hospital from where she retired in 2005. She married Herbert Jenkins in 1967 and together they raised a wonderful family. She and Mr. Herbert loved to travel to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, but otherwise her time was spent embroidering things that she shared with many. Oftentimes, she could be seen with a book in her hands reading. She would say her time most beautifully spent was with her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she doted on. Barbara was big hearted and had a personality of quick wit. She loved to cook, garden, and work with her flowers. She was a faithful member of Central Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Zack Carter and Bro. Dennis Smithey officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope (Coontail) Cemetery.
She is survived by one son, David Jenkins (Leslie) of Wren; two daughters, Mary Dell Harris (Rickey) and Deborah Karol Smith (Scott) both of Wren; two brothers, Joe Shackleford of Hatley and Ray Shackleford of Utah; 4 grandchildren, Whitney Christian (Tyler), Korie Jenkins (Anna), Emily Smith (Cade), and Hannah Wright (Dalton); 5 great grandchildren, Naomi Jenkins, Ansley Christian, Elijah Jenkins, Emelia Jenkins, and Cullen Christian; and one nephew that she helped raise, Brandon Jenkins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Jenkins; two sisters, Mae Dodson, and Ruby McCullough; and 3 brothers, Fred Shackleford, Gene Shackleford, and Charlie Shackleford.
