Amory- Aubrey Ware Minga, 95, died Monday, July 16, 2018 at Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory. Aubrey was born December 3, 1922 in Gattman, MS to the late Walter and Annie Laura Cox Minga. Growing up and attending school in Cordova, Al, his studies were cut short by World War II. It was April 1, 1943, that he bravely joined the United States Army to serve his country in the war effort. He left his homeland on November 10, 1944 steaming across the Atlantic bound for the European Theater. He valiantly and courageously fought during the Battle of the Rhineland. Upon his return on April 3, 1946, he enrolled at Livingston University earning an Engineering degree. It was at this time, that he, along with his wife left Alabama and relocated to Orlando, FL where Aubrey began his career with Lockheed Martin. After a successful career, he retired from upper management with Lockheed Martin, bought an RV and traveled extensively with his wife, visiting all of the Continental United States. Moving back to Amory, he joined and was a devoted member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church. Talented with his hands, Aubrey was also a master woodworker, handcrafting many pieces of furniture and cabinets. Finding new friends at Oak Tree Manor, during Mrs. Minga’s care there, he made lasting bonds with residents and caregivers alike. There, he would often be found talking, singing and even sometimes dancing.
He is survived by his son, Dennis Minga, Amory; sister, Peggy Parrish of Savannah, Georgia; 2 grandchildren Jarred Wesley Minga and Ashley Farr; 1 great grandchild; cousin, Jean Frazier, Sulligent and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of over 74 years, Hilda Harmon Minga; great granddaughter, Hailey; brother, Ray Minga.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Rev. Brian Gordon officiating. Inurnment will follow in Crenshaw Cemetery.
Visitation will be prior to the service on Wednesday from 11 AM until 12:50 PM.
